Shqip: Mr. Ambassador, you have been in Albania for over a year now. What are your impressions?
Ambassador Withers: It has been a fantastic year. In many ways, one of the best years of my life. It is a real joy, even a privilege, to be here. I have had a chance to travel around the country. Albania is such a beautiful country. Everywhere you go, whether it is the mountain areas, the sea, the valleys, it is just tremendous. It is a country that is very rich in culture and in history, and I would say, also, in human wisdom. It is really a great privilege for me to talk to people and to learn from those people. That, really, is the best part, the people of Albania. They are very warm, very personable, very hospitable to strangers. It makes me feel very much at home here. But I would also say, watching the Albanian people, day to day, how hard working they are and how they strive to make their own lives better now and to create even better opportunities for their children. That is a remarkable story and it actually is an inspiration for me on a daily basis to see that happen.

US Robustly Backs Albanian Prosecutor
16 October 2008 Tirana _ The US ambassador in Tirana John L. Withers backed on Thursday with strong words and praise Albania’s General Prosecutor Ina Rama.
“Her responsibilities are not only to investigate some of the most difficult and controversial cases that Albania has known, but in a larger and more profound sense, to make a profound contribution to the building of Albanian democracy through defending the independence of her institution and of the judiciary in general against political pressure and political attacks,” said Withers.
“It does not take any great wisdom on my part to predict that when the history of Albanian democracy is written, there will be a special chapter in it for people like Ina Rama,” he added.
Prime Minister Sali Berisha has tried to pressure the prosecutor general by trying to open a parliamentary investigation into a probe launched by the Prosecutor's Office against Bosnian businessman Damir Fazlic, a close friend of the premier.
Berisha’s attack on the prosecutor general received strong criticism from the opposition, however the premier has been unaffected
“You can’t put a dismissal motion against me, because you are castrated” he told the opposition in parliament on Thursday.

“I frankly see no legitimate reason for the government or the parliament to make these moves. I urge both the government and the parliament to reconsider these ill-considered actions, which appear to intrude on the independence of an institution that needs to be independent, said Withers.
“My advice, and that of my government, is to let the prosecutors do their job as the independent actors that they are,” he added.
Wither’s statement is the second in the last three days by the US embassy in Tirana condemning the government’s move.
The European Union ambassadors in Tirana on Tuesday also condemned the attack launched by Berisha against the Prosecutor General.
"The Ambassadors of the European Union are troubled by recent developments concerning the judicial system in Albania," the ambassadors said in a joint statement.
"We strongly call upon all, particularly the government, to respect the Constitutional provisions and principles of good governance, including accountability to the law."
Berisha returned to power in Tirana in 2005 on a “Clean Hands” platform, promising to rid the country of the endemic corruption that has plagued its institutions since the fall of the communist regime in 1991.
Since he regained power in 2005 as head of a right-wing coalition, his opponents claim corruption in Albania has only worsened.
Two ministers of his government are currently under investigation for abuse of power, and a senior official is currently being tried for murder and torture.

Gut gemacht, denn nur klare Worte können bei den Verstrickungen der Politik in Korruption und oft sogar in Drogen Handel und der Geldwäsche über Immobilien helfen.
Eine grossartige Aktion im übrigen der Vorgängerin Frau Ries, welche auf Grund einer schriftlichen Anregung von Ende März 2007 umgehend und sofort auch mit der PAMECA und der Weltbank reagiert, die umsetzung der Task Force.
Die gesamte Albanische Presse, Albanische Politiker begrüssen die Macht Wechsel in Amerika, denn was jeder Inside Kenner seit 10 Jahren weiss: Auch im Albanischen Raum waren die Albaner klare Anti Bush und Anti Amerikanisch, weil die US - Deutschen kriminellen Horden aus der Politik, nur Verbrecher an die Macht brachten, um irgendwelche dubiosen Geschäfte zu machen. Diesmal schreitet der US Botschafter erneut ein, als ein Gesetz verabschiedet werden sollte, was automatisch alle Richter und hohe Beamte von Staats Ämtern ausschliesst, wenn man für das frühere Kommunistische System arbeitete.
Das ist richtig, aber zur Erinnerung: In Deutschland werden genau derartige Ex Funktionäre auch aus dem Staatsdienst gemobbt und zwar mit allen Mitteln, auch wenn man korrekt früher gearbeitet hatte.
Ohne Zweifel hat die US Botschaft ein Team aufgebaut, was mit dem US Botschafter James Jeffrey begann in 2002, das hinter die Kulissen blickt und sich in die Denkweise der Albaner und vor allem der Politiker eingearbeitet hat. Die Albaner Politiker, sind oft nur Show Spieler, welche neben ihren Geschäften mit derartigen Show Effekten in der Politik und dem Tam, Tam von den Hintergründen ablenken wollen.

Albania’s parliament has postponed a vote on a lustration bill on senior administration figures, which has come under harsh criticism by the US, the opposition and interest groups.
The voting of the bill was postponed by the majority on Monday to make way for the new amendments.

In dem Wirrwar, der Bluts verwandten, der Kanun verbundenen hat Withers den richtigen Weg gefunden, denn manche Dinge können nur funktionieren, wenn glaubwürdige Leute, einen klaren Weg aufzeigen. Oft passiert Nichts, weil man irgendwie noch Blut und Ehre Verpflichtungen hat gegenübern Dritten, welche z.B. mal Wahlkampf Hilfe gegeben haben. Deshalb müssen die sehr wenigen Ausländer aktiv Politik und REcht gestalten.
Und erfreulich ist, das dann mal ein massiver Anruf aus Washington kommt von Daniel Fried (der ein Halunke und Verbrecher ist und auf zuviele falsche Berater hörte im Laufe seiner Europa faschistischen Ausbreitungs Theorien auch mit dem Kosovo Krieg (siehe Willy Wimmer) ) und dem Salih Berisha klipp und klar sagt, wo es lang geht und Folge ist, das Salih Berisha dann Dinge durchsetzen kann, die ansonsten gegen die Mafiöse Business und Politik Verbindungen nur schwer durch zu setzen sind.

Ambasada e Shteteve të Bashkuara ka përgënjeshtruar dje në mbrëmje Kryeministrin shqiptar Sali Berisha, që gjatë një konference shtypi mohoi të kishte zhvilluar një bisedë telefonike për ligjin e dosjeve me ndihmëssekretarin e Departamentit të Shtetit, Daniel Fried. Ambasada amerikane ka konfirmuar për "Gazeta Shqiptare", se Fried i ka telefonuar Berishës dhe i ka kërkuar që maxhoranca të mos nxitohet në miratimin e variantit të propozuar për hapjen e dosjeve. Fried mësohet t'i ketë thënë shefit të qeverisë shqiptare, se nevojitet një reflektim i matur ndaj projektligjit, në mënyrë që ai të mos cenojë pavarësinë e sistemit të drejtësisë.

Das waren noch Zeiten, als man auf die Deutschen hörte, welche sich zum Bestechungs Lobby Kaspar in Tirana inzwischen unglaubwürdig gemacht haben. Die letzte Chance wurde im Herbst 2005 vertan, als man einem in Ruhestand befindlichen Ministerial Rat eine Tätigkeit als Berater für Salih Berisha verweigerte, welche S.Berisha nachgefragt hatte. Aber wenn Hirnlose sogar Aussenminister in Deutschland werden können, kann man sich nicht mehr wundern.
Das Problem in Albanien ist, das weite Teile des Landes wie Sarande in Anarchie abstürzen, durch illegale Bebauung, weil der Staat A) zu schwach ist B) jeder Adminstrative und Polizist, selbst darin verwickelt ist C) der Wahlkampf hat begonnen, was bedeutet, das jeder rafft, was noch geht D) Die Staatsanwaltschaft Tirana rafft ebenso und stellt Verfahren gegen Geld ein (Ausnahme Ina Rama und Task Force, welche weiter hochrangig verhaften)

Kurz gesagt: Im Moment geht gar Nichts mehr in Albanien.
